Freebird software was created to allow rapid identification, markup and reporting for audio soundfiles of birdsong.
Typically soundfiles could be several minutes to days in length. A spectrogram approach allows visual
identification of birdsong and other sounds, but the key thing about Freebird analysis software is that each birdsong can
be marked, re-listed to and tagged very quickly, allowing the operator to quickly process several hours of
recordings easily. Additionally, tools have been built in to manage several recordings as a session (e.g. a
particular study or location) and sessions can be grouped under the top level of the hierarchy which is a
workspace. The program is also designed so that the analysis can be stopped and restarted later, to
accommodate the fact the operators are busy people, and are often called away.
